The Mitchell Area Charitable Foundation “The Best for Last” fundraiser has been deemed a success.

The event was a partnership between the Mitchell High School show choir and MACF to raise funds to help the show choir purchase new risers. MACF arranged for the show choir to obtain $10,000 if the choir sold all the raffle tickets for the event, and Richard and Darlene Muth gave the last $3,000 to reach that goal.

First National Bank hosted The Best for Last event and provided the food and beverages. The event was held in conjunction with the Mitchell Chamber of Commerce’s October Mix & Mingle.

For a $50 raffle ticket, participants could win a number of prizes, including a grand prize of $5,000 sponsored by Ron and Sheliah Gates and state Sen. Mike Vehle.

In the reverse raffle, the last tickets drawn were the big winners rather than the first.

The last five ticketholders agreed to split the $5,000 prize and those winners were J&M Corn Palace group, Stacey Nettinga, Gwenda Koch, Debra Rice and Leann Farnham. Anyone interested can check the link on the Mitchell Chamber website for a list of all prize winners.

This year, MACF has awarded $30,000 in charitable grants to local organizations. MACF needs to raise $200,000 by December 2013 to reach a challenge grant of $50,000 offered by the South Dakota Community Foundation. Once this goal is reached, MACF will hold $1 million in endowed funds and will be able to distribute in excess of $40,000 in annual grants.

The MACF is within $25,000 of reaching this goal.

Donations can be made by sending them to Mitchell Area Charitable Foundation, PO Box 1087, Mitchell, S.D., 57301. For more information, contact the chamber at the MACF address or call Doug Eidahl, MACF board president, at (605) 996-0771.
