Wagner, Winner teams play in Class A region tournaments today

WAGNER — The Wagner and Winner volleyball teams will continue their quest to the Class A State Volleyball Tournament in region tournament matches today.
The Red Raiders play Tri-Valley in the Region 5A tournament at 7 p.m. today in Colton.
The winner earns a state tournament berth, while the loser’s season ends.
Wagner was the No. 1-ranked team coming into the postseason with a 29-3 record.
The Red Raiders have qualified for the state tournament for the past four seasons and finished in second place in the state tournament last year.
Wagner is led by a trio on offense in Nicole Weber, Gina Soukup and Kim Koupal. Weber has led the attack with 183 kills this season. Soukup has 123 kills this season and Koupal has tallied 115.
Defensively, Sydney Breen has led with 250 digs on the season.
The Red Raiders did not play Tri-Valley during the regular season. Tri-Valley defeated McCook Central/Montrose to reach the Region 5A championship match and is 21-6 this year.
The Winner Warriors play Pine Ridge with a state tournament berth at stake in the Region 7A tournament at 7 p.m. today in Mission.
The teams did not face off this season.
The Warriors are 20-9 this season and defeated Gregory in straight sets to reach the region tournament. Cassidy Hanson has led the Warriors with 313 kills this season.
Pine Ridge has a record of 30-1 and beat Bennett County in five sets to advance to the region tournament.
Winner has not made the state tournament since 2008, where it took sixth place.
