LETTER: Tax system needs to be fair, not help rich

To the Editor:
It seems our economy is slowly recovering. That slowly is part of the problem. We need more jobs and more people paying taxes. In the meantime, we have this national debt hanging over us that is getting worse every day and is going to destroy us if we don’t do something about it.
Modern technology took over a lot of our jobs and then the unions got so strong that they forced labor up so high that companies could no longer compete in the world markets so the companies had to go out of the country to find cheap labor. I know it is frustrating when you work your butt off for $50,000 a year when the company executives sit at their desks handling the company profits and raking off millions of the profits for themselves.
The government could equalize that somewhat by a proper tax system. But since Congress seems to be controlled by millionaires and billionaires, which includes a big percentage of Congress themselves, they make the laws to benefit themselves and their rich friends that put up the money to keep them in office, at the expense of the country and the general public.
We have a good tax system that used to have a top net income bracket of 91 percent. But since the rich people got control of Congress they have gotten the top income bracket down to 35 percent with enough loopholes so a lot of the rich people pay very little taxes.
