WRECK-IT RALPH

Walt Disney Animation Studios takes moviegoers on a hilarious, arcade-game-hopping journey in this animated family comedy.

Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) is tired of being overshadowed by Fix-It Felix (Jack McBrayer, “30 Rock”), the “good guy” star of their game who always gets to save the day. But after decades doing the same thing and seeing all the glory go to Felix, Ralph decides he’s tired of playing the role of a bad guy. He takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a game-hopping journey across the arcade through every generation of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero.

“Wreck-It Ralph” opens nationally on Friday, including at the Luxury 5 Cinema. 108 minutes. It is presented in 3D and 2D at alternating showtimes.

It is rated PG for some rude humor and mild action/violence.

PITCH PERFECT

This new comedy/drama centers on a college a cappella girls’ singing group. Anna Kendrick plays a girl at a new college who finds that she isn’t right for any group of friends until she finds herself muscled into one group she thought she would never want. This group of mean girls, sweet girls and weird girls share one thing in common — how good they sound when they sing together. She takes this acoustic singing group out of its world of traditional arrangements and perfect harmonies into all-new mash ups. They compete in the cutthroat world of college a cappella.

“Pitch Perfect” starts Friday at the Luxury 5 Cinema. 112 minutes. It is rated PG-13 for sexual material, language and drug references.

HERE COMES THE BOOM

Kevin James stars as a teacher who will literally take a punch to save his school’s music program.

James plays Scott Voss, a teacher and former collegiate wrestler, in this comedy with a heart. Scott is a 42-year-old apathetic biology teacher in a failing high school. When cutbacks threaten to cancel the music program and lay off its teacher (Henry Winkler), Scott begins to raise money by moonlighting as a mixed martial arts fighter.

Everyone thinks Scott is crazy — most of all the school nurse, Bella (Salma Hayek) — but in his quest, Scott gains something he never expected as he becomes a sensation that rallies the entire school.

“Here Comes the Boom” is held over. 105 minutes. It is rated PG for bouts of MMA sports violence, some rude humor and language.

CHASING MAVERICKS

This new movie is based on the true story of the friendship of an older surfer and a 15-year-old who wants to surf California’s most dangerous waves.

It is based on the inspirational story of surfing icon Jay Moriarty. It tells the story of a young man’s quest to surf Mavericks, Northern California’s most dangerous waves, and the local legend who takes him under his wing. What begins as a mentorship turns into a unique and kindred bond, which ultimately transforms the lives of both men.

The film stars Gerard Butler (of “300” fame), Jonny Weston and Elisabeth Shue.

“Chasing Mavericks” is held over through Nov. 8. 116 minutes. It is rated PG for thematic elements and some perilous action.

FUN SIZE

This teen comedy is centered on a sarcastic high school senior, Wren, whose mother insists that she watch her 12-year-old little brother, Albert, on Halloween night, so mom can go to a party with her much younger boyfriend. When Wren brings Albert along to the wild high school party of the year, Albert disappears into a sea of trick-or-treaters. Frantic to locate him before their mother discovers he’s missing, Wren enlists the help of her sassy best friend, April, as well as Peng, an aspiring ladies man and co-captain of the debate team, and Peng’s best friend, Roosevelt, a sweet nerd whose crush on Wren clouds his better judgment. This unlikely foursome embarks on a high-stakes, all-night adventure to find Albert, crossing paths with outrageous characters every step of the way.
