Area volleyball roundup: Wolverines win Disrtict 10B tourney
Maria Nightingale recorded 17 kills to lead White Lake over Corsica/Stickney 3-1 in the District 10B championship volleyball match Tuesday.
Maria Nightingale recorded 17 kills to lead White Lake over Corsica/Stickney 3-1 in the District 10B championship volleyball match Tuesday.
The match was played at Mitchell Christian High School and set scores were 19-25, 25-14, 25-13, 25-20.
Ivy Haines and Nightingale each had seven blocks in the win. Hailey Mohnen served four aces for the Wolverines. Kim Musen had 28 set assists in the win.
White Lake (21-6) plays in the Region 5A championship match Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Jackie Dethlefsen was the kill leader for Corsica/Stickney with 15. Micayla Bamberg added six kills and had two blocks. Missy Johnson led the Jaguars’ defense with 21 digs. Kara Prien added 12 digs. Brianna Kupyer recorded 11 digs, 24 set assists and four service aces.
Corsica/Stickney finished its season at 10-17.
Parker 3, Freeman 0
FREEMAN — Parker moves on to the District 7B championship match with a win over Freeman in straight sets Tuesday. Set scores were 25-17, 25-9, 25-14. Dina Soulek led the Flyers’ effort with 11 kills and nine digs. Shelby Jensen added five kills and three digs. Nicole Hinckley recorded four kills and Shelby Bauer had three kills and four digs. Grace Gering tallied 23 set assists.
Parker plays Marion Friday at 7 p.m. at Freeman Academy for the district championship.
Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 3,
Wessington Springs 0
WOLSEY — Sanborn Central/Woonsocket is one step closer to the state tournament after a win over Wessington Springs in straight sets Tuesday in a District 9B tournament match . Set scores were 25-1, 25-15, 25-14.
Marissa Weber led the attack for Sanborn Central/Woonsocket with 10 kills. Shelby Selland recorded nine kills and three blocks. Rachel Selland added eight kills. Candace Page-Marten ended the match with 24 digs and 19 set assists. Rachelle Moore tallied 13 digs and served two aces. Morgan Selland served four aces in the win.
Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (21-5) plays James Valley Christian in the District 9B championship Friday at 7 p.m. in Wolsey.
Sheyanne Brodkorb recorded 14 digs and five kills to lead Wessington Springs. Tracie Orth recorded six kills, three blocks and two service aces. Shyanne Kopfmann recorded five kills and three blocks. Wessington Springs ends its season with a 9-18 record.
Wagner 3, Platte-Geddes 2
WAGNER — The Wagner Red Raiders were crowned District 10A volleyball champions in a back and forth match against Platte-Geddes Thursday. Set scores were 20-25, 25-9, 17-25, 26-24, 15-12.
Nicole Weber served five aces for Wagner and tallied 13 kills. Kim Koupal added 14 kills. Sydney Breen recorded 32 digs, while Delaynie Dickerson had 29. Ali Kuca had nine kills and four blocks. Jessa Doom recorded 41 assists.
Kelly Knudson led the Black Panthers with 20 kills and 13 digs. Josie DeGroot added 15 kills. Maddy Tegethoff had 32 digs and Shelby Rabenburg had 27. Kelly Sprik tallied 32 assists. Platte-Geddes ends its season at 20-8.
Wagner (29-3) plays Tri-Valley Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Colton in the Region 5A championship.
Miller 3, Chamberlain 2
CROW CREEK — Chamberlain fell to Miller in the District 12A championship match Thursday in five sets. Set scores were 19-25, 25-13, 18-25, 25-12, 15-12.
Jamie Mentzer served six aces for Miller and Jansen Hunter served four. Mentzer and Hunter each recorded 10 kills. Mentzer had 24 digs while Kristen Peterka had 22. Denae Schlecter tallied 37 set assists.
Chamberlain’s stats were not available.
Miller plays Mobridge-Pollock Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Gettysburg for the Region 6A championship.
Winner 3, Gregory 0
BONESTEEL — Winner captured the District 13A volleyball championship title with a win over Gregory in straight sets Thursday. Set scores were 25-13, 25-18, 26-24.
Cassidy Hanson led the Warriors with 17 kills and 14 digs. Lindsey Calhoon added seven kills and 13 digs. Tessa Lester recorded 10 digs and two service aces. Emily Richey had six digs and two service aces. Sara Husher had 13 set assists and Kristin Hennebold had 10. Winner is 20-9 going into the region championship.
Cheyenne Salonen led Gregory with 12 kills and six digs. Courtney Opbroek added six kills and served three aces. Desiree Stephen tallied 23 digs and Codi Herst added 11. Sierra Thomas put up 24 set assists and added eight digs. Gregory ends its season at 13-13.
Winner plays Pine Ridge in the Region 7A championship Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Todd County.
Marion 3, Bridgewater-Emery 0
FREEMAN — Bridgewater-Emery fell to Marion in a District 7B tournament match Thursday. Set scores were 25-11, 25-13, 25-18.
Justine Dye led Bridgewater-Emery with one ace, 13 digs, three blocks, seven kills. MacKenzie Schultz had one ace, seven digs, three kills, 19 set assists. Chesney Arend had 12 digs. Alycia Kayser had four kills. Tiana Kayser had four kills. Aly Hanssen had eight digs. BE finished the season at 12-14.
Marion’s stats were not reported. Marion (23-5) plays Parker Friday at 7 p.m. at Freeman Academy in the district championship.
Hanson 3, Avon 1
SCOTLAND — Hanson will play in the District 11B championship match after defeating Avon 3-1 Thursday. Set scores were 25-15, 25-23, 24-26, 25-19.
Kynedi Cheeseman led the Beavers with 12 kills. Erica Nelson had nine kills and four blocks. Lindsi Dey recorded 14 digs in the win. Abby Kayser and Leah Marsh had eight digs apiece. Kelly Wenande also had eight digs and served four aces. Kendra Cheeseman finished wiht 21 assists.
Avon’s stats were not reported, but the Pirates end the season at 14-12.
Hanson (18-8) plays Scotland in the championship match at 7 p.m. today in Scotland.
Scotland 3, Ethan 1
SCOTLAND — No. 3 Scotland (16-11) defeated No. 2 Ethan (15-10) in four sets in the second round of the District 11B volleyball tournament Thursday. Set scores were 25-21, 24-26, 27-25, 26-24.
Stats were not available for this match.
Scotland hosts Hanson in the championship match today at 7 p.m.
Andes Central 3, South Central 0
ARMOUR — Andes Central (28-3) was named the District 12B volleyball champion with a win over South Central (9-17) in straight sets Thursday. Set scores were 25-16, 25-12, 25-18.

MURDO — Lyman clinched the title of District 13B volleyball champion with a win over Jones County in four sets Thursday. Set scores were 27-25, 19-25, 27-25, 25-14.
Anna Flitner served four aces for Lyman. Hanna Thiry served one ace. Flitner recorded 36 digs. Sara Herman had 31 digs. Jessica Weltner had eight blocks. Brooklyn Halversen had seven blocks. Bailey Almond recorded 28 assists. Chesney Garnoss had 15 assists. Flitner had 34 kills. Welter had six kills.
Lyman (15-12) plays in the Region 7B championship match Tuesday at 7 p.m.

COLTON — McCook Central/Montrose finished its season at 10-15 with a loss to Tri-Valley in straight sets in the District 9A championship match Thursday. Set scores were 25-16, 25-12, 25-14.
Anna Olinger had five kills for the Fighting Cougars. Jean skoglund added four kills and had a team-high 12 digs. Brianna Painter recorded nine digs. Laura Klaudt tallied nine set assists.
Tri-Valley hosts Wagner Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Colton for the Region 5A championship.
