Four juveniles suffered minor injuries in a single-vehicle rollover

crash shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday east of Mitchell.

The crash occurred when the 17-year-old driver of the vehicle, a 1992

Chevy Corsica, lost control on loose gravel on a curved section of

255th Street near its intersection with 411th Avenue, less than two

miles east of Mitchell.

The driver and three passengers range between 10 and 17 years old.

South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper Dan Podzimek declined to release

the names of those in the crash because they are juveniles.

The vehicle rolled once and then came to rest on its wheels in a

nearby ditch. With a shattered windshield and smashed roof, the car

was totaled in the crash, Podzimek said. Only the driver and one of

the back-seat passengers were wearing seat belts.

All four occupants were transported by ambulance to Avera Queen of

Peace Hospital in Mitchell with minor injuries, Podzimek said. The

South Dakota Highway Patrol, Davison County Sheriff’s Office, Mitchell

Ambulance and Mitchell Fire Division all responded to the crash.

The driver was cited for careless driving.
