Area volleyball roundup: Corsica/Stickney beats Kimball in 4

Kara Prien led the offense with eight kills. Jackie Dethlefsen and Micayla Bamberg added seven kills each. Bamberg also had four blocks and Dethlefsen had two. Brianna Kuyper tallied 21 set assists. Missy Johnson led the Jaguars in digs with 11. Kuyper had nine digs on the night.

Haley Pazour led the Kiotes with 12 kills and seven digs. Anna Pazour added nine digs. Lindsay Olson recorded nine kills in the match. Mary Kroupa put up 19 set assists. Emily Sinclair served three aces.

Corsica/Stickney has a 10-16 record going into the second round of the tournament. The Jaguars will play White Lake at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Mitchell Christian gym. Kimball ends its season at 4-19.

McCook Central/Montrose 3,

Mount Vernon/Plankinton 1

PLANKINTON — No. 3 McCook Central/Montrose upset No. 2 Mount Vernon/Plankinton in four sets Tuesday in a District 9A tournament volleyball match. Set scores were 25-13, 25-11, 16-25, 25-20.

MCM was led by Jean Skoglund with two service aces and 18 digs. Anna Olinger had a team high 21 kills. Laura Klaudt recorded 20 set assists. Natasha Krempges had two blocks for the Fighting Cougars.

Jordan Ackterberg served three aces for the Titans. Megan Bultsma recorded six kills and seven blocks for MVP. Makaela Karst had five kills and Mikayla Weiss tallied 13 set assists. Kallyn Prangley led the team with 16 digs.

MCM is 10-15 and plays Tri-Valley Thursday. Mount Vernon/Plankinton ends its season at 14-14.

Wagner 3, Parkston 1

WAGNER — Sydney Breen ended the match with a team-high 21 digs as Wagner defeated Parkston 25-23, 25-14, 10-25, 25-23 in District 10A tournament action Tuesday.

Delaynie Dickerson served five aces in the win. Kim Koupal led the Red Raiders in kills with 12 while Nicole Weber had nine. Jessa Doom tallied 30 set assists.

Parkston’s Laura Weiss led the team with eight kills. Sadie Dvorak added seven kills. MacKenzie Lee recorded 15 digs. Whitney Weber had eight digs and nine assists for the night. Krista Radke recorded 10 set assists.

Wagner is 28-3 this season and hosts Platte-Geddes Thursday in the second round of districts at 7 p.m. Parkston ends its season with a 12-16 record.

Winner 3, Todd County 0

WINNER — Cassidy Hanson recorded 13 kills to lead Winner over Todd County in straight sets in a District 13A tournament volleyball match Tuesday. Set scores were 25-9, 25-13, 25-7.

Tawny Sherman and Lindsey Calhoon added six kills each in the win and Calhoon had a team-high 13 digs. Sarah Husher led the team with 14 set assists while Kristin Hennebold and Kelsey Bertram added six each. Emily Richey served five aces and Tessa Lester served four.

Winner is 19-9 going into the second round match against Gregory Thursday at 7 pm in Bonesteel.

Teddi Young recorded five set assists and served two aces for Todd County. Allison Cox recorded three kills and Selina Big Crow added two. Stevie Lone Dog led the team with two blocks.

The Lady Falcons finish their season with a 6-23 record.

Gregory 3, St. Francis Indian 0

GREGORY — Cheyenne Salonen recorded 15 kills to lead Gregory over St. Francis Indian in straight sets in the first round of the District 13A tournament Tuesday. Set scores were 25-12, 25-15, 25-14.

Courtney Opbroek and MacKenzie Odenbach recorded seven kills apiece in the win. Opbroek finished the match with 11 service aces. Sierra Thomas tallied 21 set assists and 18 digs. Desiree Stephen had 13 digs.

The Gorillas are 13-12 this season and play Winner at 7 pm in Bonesteel.

St. Francis was led by Darien Quick Bear with six kills and two blocks. Cera Walking Eagle added four kills and six digs. Chey Brushbreaker ended the night with 11 assists, eight digs and two service aces. Kate LaPointe had a team-high 20 digs. Darci Kills In Water served two aces and Neola Spotted Tail had six blocks.

The Lady Warriors end their season at 8-17.

Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 3, Howard 0

RUTLAND — Howard ended its volleyball season with a loss in straight sets to Oldham-Ramona/Rutland in District 4B volleyball action. Set scores were 25-19, 25-11, 25-14.

Howard ends its season at 10-14.

Freeman 3, Canistota 0

FREEMAN — Dina Soulek recorded 12 digs and six digs in Freeman’s rout of Canistota Tuesday in the District 7B tournament. Set scores were 25-23, 25-21, 27-25.

Shelby Jensen tallied five kills, six digs and three service aces in the win. Shelby Bauer finished the match with four kills and seven digs. Lexi Graber served four aces while Nicole Hinckley served three aces. Grace Gering had 26 set assists for the Flyers.

Freeman is 10-11 this season and plays Parker at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Academy.

Brianna Buseman led Canistota with seven kills, nine blocks and six digs. Kelsie Rotert had a team-high 18 digs while Morgan Larson had 11. Chloe Nielsen had 17 set assists for the Hawks. Lexy Sandman recorded four kills, eight digs and three service aces in the loss. Natasha Letcher had five kills, seven digs and four service aces. Canistota ends its season at 7-20.

Bridgewater-Emery 3, Freeman Academy 0

FREEMAN — Bridgewater-Emery defeated Freeman Academy 3-0 in the first round of the District 7B tournament Tuesday. Set scores were 25-14, 25-20, 25-18.

Bridgewater-Emery is 12-13 and plays Marion in the second round of the tournament at 7 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Academy. Freeman Academy ends its season at 2-18.

Wessington Springs 3, Iroquois 2

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Wessington Springs triumphed over Iroquois in a five set first round match in the District 9B volleyball tournament Thursday. Set scores were 23-25, 25-20, 18-25, 25-19, 15-4.

Traci Orth served five aces in the win and had eight blocks. Sheyanne Brodkorb led the Lady Spartans with 12 kills and nine digs. Haley Reider recorded 12 assists. Devin Tebay had eight digs. Wessington Springs is 9-15 and plays Woonsocket/Sanborn Central Thursday in Wolsey.

Lacey Nelson served four aces for Iroquois. Britney Moeller tallied 20 kills and four blocks. Kelsey Blue put up 22 set assists. Amber Jacobs led the Lady Chiefs with 22 digs. Iroquois ends its season at 2-26.

White Lake 3, Mitchell Christian 0

Maria Nightingale had a team-high 15 kills to lead White Lake over Mitchell Christian in District 10B tournament action Tuesday. Set scores were 25-13, 25-17, 25-17.

Jazmyn Hinker recorded six kills in the win and Clara Moeller added five. Nightingale led with seven blocks while Ivy Haines had four. Kim Munsen put up 31 set assists. Hailey Mohnen led the team in digs with three and in service aces with six.

Emily Reynen led the Eagles with six kills and three blcoks. Brittany Zoss and Lindsay Thompson added two kills each. Ellie Bleeker led the team in digs with five while Reynen and Emily Schrag added four digs apiece. Zoss and Bleeker each recorded two service aces in the match. Schrag had 10 set assists.

White Lake (20-6) plays Corsica/Stickney in the District 10B championship at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Mitchell Christian gym. The Eagles end the season at 3-18.

Avon 3, Menno 0

AVON — Avon defeated Menno in straight sets in the first round of the District 11B volleyball tournament Tuesday.

Set scores were 25-16, 25-21, 25-19.

Chesney Nagel and Ariana Oorlog each had six kills in the win. Nagel also had two blocks, six set assists and two service aces. Oorlog recorded four set assists and four service aces. Emily Mudder tallied two blocks, six digs and two service aces. Amanda Reiff recorded seven digs and served two aces. Sami DeJong served two aces.

For the Wolves, Courtney Schaeffer came away with three kills, six digs and seven set assists. Shelby Huber recorded five kills and three digs. Abby Herrboldt had three kills and four digs.

Brittany Haberman recorded two kills and six digs for Menno. Christina Herrboldt recorded two kills, three digs and two service aces. Madison Huber added seven set assists and four digs. Ashton Diede tallied six digs.

Avon is 14-10 and plays Hanson at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the second round of districts in Scotland. Menno ends its season at 1-24.

Tripp-Delmont/Armour 3, Marty Indian 0

LAKE ANDES — Tripp-Delmont/Armour defeated Marty Indian in straight sets in District 12B volleyball action Tuesday. Set scores were 25-9, 25-9, 25-9.

Marty Indian ends its season at 4-15.

PLATTE — Kelli Sprik recorded three aces, 16 assists, five kills and seven digs as Platte-Geddes defeated Bon Homme in straight sets Tuesday in the District 10A tournament. Set scores were 25-17, 25-13, 25-11.

Platte-Geddes’ Kelly Knudson had five kills, two blocks and 16 digs. Chelsea DeGroot added five kills, one block and one ace. Shelby Rabenburg added five kills and 10 digs and Maddy Tegethoff had 12 digs.

Alie Adams led Bon Homme with four aces and 11 assists, Caitlin McLouth had five kills while Kelsey Soudra had five kills and seven digs. Jody Kriz had 14 digs and Emily Pechous tallied nine digs.

Platte-Geddes (20-7) plays Wagner Thursday in Wagner. Bon Homme is finished with the season.

South Central 3, Colome 0

NEW HOLLAND — Ashley Green and Jamie Borszich each recorded 6 kills to lead South Central to a straight sets victory over Colome in the District 12B semifinal match Tuesday.

Set scores were 25-18, 25-7, 25-21.

Courtney Dummer had 11 digs, followed by Green and Whitney Hutchison, who each logged 10.

Shailhyn Schweigert added nine assist. Becca Moorhead led Colome with four kills and 13 digs.

Tracy Routh netted 15 assist and one service ace while Mariah Kinzer had six kills and Rylee Rutten added seven digs.

South Central 3, Dakota Christian 0

NEW HOLLAND—Courtney Dummer recorded 11 kills and nine digs as South Central defeated Dakota Christian in three sets Tuesday in a second round District 12B volleyball match.

Set scores were 25-14, 25-14, 25-22.

KayDee Kirwan had 13 assist and two blocks. Tess Bents had nine digs and Ashley Green recorded three service aces.

Dakota Christian was led by Brooklyn VanderPol recorded six kills four digs and one block.

Kennedy Muckey had eight assist four blocks and two blocks. Amber Bann Hofman added six kills and one block.

South Central plays Andes Central in the District 12B championship match Thursday.
