The Mitchell Baseball Association announced two additions for the 2013 season in a meeting Monday.
Luke Norden, Mitchell’s high school spring baseball and Legion coach, has been named the director of operations and a junior Legion team will be added in the 2013 season.
Jim Larson, the MBA president, said there were about 75 players and parents in attendance, and the meeting was “very well received.”
Todd Cavanaugh, the association’s vice president, said the board wanted to get the word out about the new program to allow the public to see its benefits.
“These were two things that we really wanted to emphasize,” Cavanaugh said. “We really think the junior Legion team will add some flexibility and keep kids involved in Mitchell baseball with more opportunities.”
There are three sign-up dates for summer programs, set for 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13, 20, 27 at the Mitchell Parks and Recreation Center.
After numbers are calculated, player assessments will be done in March by independent coaches, and the association will start placing players on teams by appropriate skill level based on the assessments.
Larson said it will be crucial for players to register early, so further scheduling can be done.
