AREA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Winner tops Custer for 10th win

WINNER — Tanner Fritz completed three passes on three attempts as the Winner Warriors defeated Custer 49-0 in an 11B high school playoff game Monday.

Fritz recorded 107 yards passing and two touchdowns. Ben Connot had 84 yards rushing on eight carries and 58 yards receiving in the win.

Kyle Bertram had eight carries for 82 yards and Trace Meyer had six carries for 66 yards rushing and a touchdown. Meyer also recorded 18 yards receiving. Isiah Old Lodge added 33 yards receiving. Adam Farner and Scott Assman each tallied eight tackles. Grant Toman added two sacks.

Custer’s David Gaston led the Wildcats with 25 carries for 82 yards rushing. Chase Glazier was 5-of-17 passing for 52 yards and an interception. Erik Hiltunen had two catches for 30 yards.

Winner remains undefeated with 10 straight wins and hosts Flandreau Saturday. Custer ends its season at 5-5.

Herreid/Selby Area 40, Corsica/Stickney 28

SELBY — Corsica/Stickney ended its bid for a state championship with a 40-28 loss to Herreid/Selby in a 9A quarterfinal game Monday. The Jaguars end their season with 6-4 overall record.

Nick Larson rushed for 116 yards on 12 carries for the Wolverines. Cooper Schaefbauer rushed for 114 yards on 14 carries. Nick Larson completed 3 of 10 passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns. Dakota Thorstenson recorded 65 receiving yards from two catches.

Thorstenson led defensively with 12 tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception. Zach Geller added 10 tackles.

Herreid/Selby Area, who is undefeated at 10-0, travels to Warner Saturday for the semifinal game.

Gunner Baan Hofmann led Corsica/Stickney with 14 carries for 151 rushing yards. Adam Bormann added 82 yards on 21 carries and was 6-of-7 passing for 101 yards. Defensively, Cameron Kostal had 14 tackles and Lane Thomas had 12.

CHAMBERLAIN — Chamberlain ends its season at 3-7 with a 47-6 loss to Dell Rapids in an 11A quarterfinal playoff game Monday.

Cole Langer rushed for 121 yards on four attempts to lead the Quarriers. Zach White was 1-of-3 passing for 35 yards. James Webster recorded 35 yards on one reception.

Hunter Big Eagle was the leading rusher for Chamberlain with 67 yards on 11 carries. Mike Hauke added 39 rushing yards on nine carries. Defensively, Jamie Walters led the Cubs with six tackles. Hauke added 4.5 tackles.

Dell Rapids (9-1) hosts Hot Springs in the semifinal round Saturday.
