LETTER: Democratic Party has helped underprivileged
If we are going to declare ourselves Christians, we have to take care of the poor and needy.By: Virginia Muirhead , Presho
To the Editor:
I am so afraid we are going to be influenced by a pack of lies told by Mitt in the debates. If one never reads anything or paid no attention to the Republicans’ debates last spring or never listened to what this man has been declaring all year long and in all his conversations you might believe him.
I’ve watched and read it all. He is lying. Even Gingrich declared during the primaries “He’d say anything to win.” That is what is going on now.
And if this outfit gets elected say goodbye to Obamacare-Medicare and Social Security. They will destroy both. Ever since the Tea Party took over in Congress, they withhold $90 out of my Social Security checks every month. That’s over $1,000 a year. I could sure use that $1,000. And if our representative’s grandmother isn’t worried, maybe she doesn’t have a host of kids and grandkids who will not benefit from the Medicare as is and Social Security. Their system leaves the insurance companies to run the health program.
You know, if we are going to declare ourselves Christians, we have to take care of the poor and needy, personally, and our country works as well. Jesus states “in as much as you do for the least of these you’ve done it unto me.” Our president has proved himself a true Christian and whenever we do God’s will He blesses us. That too has been proven by our past. I know we must do right by our poor and needy, not the very privileged and the gas companies who surely haven’t helped the unprivileged.
I have lived 88 years, not as a privileged, and tried to be a Christian and I thank my God to have had FDR to give us Social Security and the Democratic Party under LBJ who gave us Medicare. As a result, my kids haven’t had to take care of me when they have their own children to raise.
