LETTER: Obama would use 2nd term to restrict or abolish firearms
Another term will be plenty of time to deny Americans our gun rights.By: Warren Thomas, Forestburg
To the Editor:
What Democrats usually ignore is the deviousness with which President Obama, a consistent anti-gun advocate, plans to assault our Second Amendment rights.
Supporters may protest that Obama has said little about controlling guns during his re-election campaign. They may even cite his politically-calculated goodwill gestures toward certain Second Amendment rights. Don’t be fooled, he hates even Democrats’ guns.
Obama knew that he didn’t have first-term votes to restrict or abolish firearms. Even Sen. Johnson has not supported the president’s previous moves to restrict our rights.
By winning re-election Obama will have the freedom to bypass Congress without that nagging problem of being responsible to American voters. He can simply impose restrictive executive firearms orders. We should not think that we can regain lost gun rights by writing Sen. Johnson, good man that he is. Congress doesn’t control presidential executive orders. Another term will be plenty of time to deny Americans our gun rights.
A presidential indirect approach can be as effective as a head-on assault, He already has appointed two outspoken Supreme Court gun enemies. A Democrat Senate approved them.
If Obama is re-elected, it seems certain he will appoint at least one more Supreme Court justice who will oppose gun ownership.
With U.N. ambassador Susan Rice’s vote and Secretary of State Clinton’s advocacy on behalf of Obama, the U.N. will likely approve the radical world-wide treaty ban on gun ownership presently being considered.
When it passes, all that will be required to subjugate Americans to U.N. gun control will be a majority vote in a Democrat-controlled Senate.
Historically, at least two things immediately occur whenever legitimate governments fall to despots — guns are confiscated and voting is eliminated. We yet have a few days to prevent that from happening, but only a few days.
