Dakota Wesleyan University fell to No. 19 Northwestern College 41-13 Saturday night at Joe Quintal Field in Mitchell.
The Great Plains Athletic Conference football matchup dropped the No. 25-ranked Tigers to 5-3 overall and 4-3 in league play this season.
DWU, which was handed its first home loss of the year, picked up only three first-half first downs and trailed 34-6 at the break.
Northwestern scored on its first three possessions for a 20-0 lead, and the Tiger didn’t find the scoreboard until quarterback Jon Bane scrambled and found Josh Endres for a 26-yard touchdown reception. The score was DWU’s lone offensive TD of the game and put the score at 27-6.
With 8:44 left in the fourth quarter, the Tigers’ other touchdown came when linebacker Jeff Maassen picked up a fumble on an option play and returned it four yards to reach the end zone.
DWU plays at Nebraska Wesleyan at 1 p.m. Saturday in its final road game of the year.
