The Davison County commissioners have lifted the county-wide burn ban.
“Thursday’s snowfall raised moisture and humidity indexes enough to allow us to lift the ban,” said Commission Chairman John Claggett, who recommended continued caution when doing any burns.
Claggett said Thursday that the decision to lift the bans was made with the recommendation of Assistant Fire Chief Paul Morris of the Mitchell Fire Division.
Morris said, “The forecast shows we’re now looking at lower temperatures and higher humidity levels. We would expect that to continue into the winter season.”
The fact that harvest is mostly finished was also a factor in making the decision to lift the ban, he said.
“We will probably have to respond to one or two fires, but they won’t be out of control fires like they would have been a week ago,” Morris said.
