Mitchell's Pat Smith appointed as First Circuit judge
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Davison County's state's attorney is the newest judge in South Dakota's First Judicial Circuit.

Gov. Dennis Daugaard announced Monday he has appointed Patrick Smith to the bench to replace the retired Judge Sean O'Brien. Daugaard says Smith is a well-respected prosecutor and a leader in the Mitchell community.
Smith has been Davison County's lead prosecutor since 1998.
The First Judicial Circuit includes Mitchell and most of southeastern South Dakota.
