Ruth Keegel, 72, Platte, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at Platte Health Center. She was born on Feb. 29, 1940.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Reformed Church, Platte. Burial will be in Platte City Cemetery.
Mount Funeral Home, Platte, is handling arrangements.
Ruth Joan Cady was born to Clayton and Eva Irene (Vanden Hoek) Cady at the family home in Harrison.
She graduated from Corsica High School in 1958 and went on to earn her teaching certificate from Southern State Teachers College in Springfield.
She taught in country schools for eight years.
On Aug. 26, 1959, she was united in marriage to Eugene Keegel at the Platte Christian Reformed Church.
To this union, three children were born.
Ruth took pleasure in being a homemaker, was employed preparing taxes at Pennington’s and, for 18 years, dealt cards at Fort Randall Casino, as well as working during tax season for H&R Block in Mitchell.
She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards (especially Texas Hold ’Em), sold Tupperware and loved to travel.
Ruth loved the Lord and was prepared to be called home.
Grateful for having shared in Ruth’s life: her husband of more than 53 years, Eugene Keegel, Platte; two sons: DeWayne Keegel, Dakota Dunes, and Dwight (Shelly) Keegel, Platte; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Keegel, Apple Creek, Ohio; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Amanda, Amy and Michael, Heather and Trevor, Kristopher (Cassie) — Nelli and Brycen, and Justine; six siblings: Muriel (Ray) Meyerink, Platte, Maurice (Evelyn) Cady, Fort Collins, Colo., Lauren (Jeanne) Cady, Lakeville, Minn., Keith (Fairan) Cady, Mesquite, Nev., Clarice (Gary) Schoon, Platte; and Linda (Richard) Johnson, Ipswich; along with several nieces, nephews and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by: a son, Daryl; a grandson, Johnathon; her parents, Clayton and Eva; her mother- and fatherin-law, John and Jabina; an infant brother-in-law, Milo Dean; and a nephew, Clinton Johnson.
