Schedule announced for celebrity hockey hunt

Pro hockey players will travel to Mitchell to take part in the third annual Pro Hockey Celebrity Hunt Nov. 2-3.

A nonprofit committee is conducting a guided hunt Nov. 3 to raise money that benefits the Sam Tronnes Memorial Foundation. The event includes a reception on Friday and a guided hunt on Saturday and a reception/dinner/auction Saturday evening. Several pro-hockey guests have already committed to attend, including Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas, and the list of celebrities will grow with more to be added during the coming weeks.

The public will have an opportunity to hunt alongside the hockey celebrities and attend the reception and dinner. Reception/hunt packages will be available for $330; hunters will be able to attend the Friday evening meet and greet reception/dinner, transportation to and from the hunt on Saturday afternoon, and a closing reception and dinner on Saturday evening. All contributions are tax deductible. For non-hunters, tickets will be available to attend the Saturday reception and dinner. Several auction items will also be available at the dinner. Many are collectible items donated by the pro hockey celebrities. An additional hunt with the celebrities on Oct. 30, will also be raffled.

This year, portions of the event are being filmed by a crew from the nationally syndicated outdoors show, “Back Country Quest,” aired on the Sportsman Channel.

The previous two hunts raised nearly $43,000 for the scholarship fund. The Sam Tronnes Memorial Foundation was established to assist South Dakota players going on to college. All seniors in the South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association (SDAHA) are eligible to be a recipient of a scholarship.
