MOUNT VERNON: Students place at CBH oral interp contest

The following students placed at the CBH Oral Interp Contest:

Cassidy Pohlen, third in prose; Deric Denning and Haley Hinker, third in duet; Phil Millar, second in humorous; Alaina Bertsch, Bryce Erickson, Charlie Mahaffey and Bobby Beach-Pattison, second in reader’s theater.

Activities for the week of Oct. 15 through 22 are as follows:

Today, there will be a junior high football game at 4 p.m. in Freeman. The Mount Vernon-Plankinton Titan volleyball team will travel to Parkston with a C game beginning at 5:15 p.m., the JV game at 6:30 p.m. and the varsity game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, there will be a fifth- and sixth-grade girls’ basketball game at 6:30 p.m. at Mitchell Christian, with a fifth and sixth grade boys’ game at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, the Mustangs football team will host Howard starting at 7 p.m. Friday is the end of the first quarter of the 2012-2013 school year. There will be a girls’ varsity competitive cheer tournament held in Watertown Friday and Saturday.

Saturday, the state varsity cross country meet will be held in Huron. There will also be a girls’ varsity volleyball tournament at Bon Homme High School at 9 a.m.

Oct. 22, there will be a fifth and sixth grade girls’ basketball game at 3:15 p.m. at Corsica with a fifth and sixth grade boys’ game at 4 p.m. The Titans volleyball team will host Sanborn Central-Woonsocket in Plankinton with a junior high game at 4:30 p.m.; a C game at 5:15 p.m., JV at 6:30 p.m. and varsity at 7:30 p.m.

The school carnival will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 26 in the Tom Young Community Center. The 2012 Mount Vernon Wild Game Feed Benefit, a family event held annually, will be held Oct. 27 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the downtown gym.

The public is invited and there will be a free will donation, raffle and silent auction. Proceeds will benefit the American Legion Post 210 and the Mount Vernon Wrestling Club.

There will also be an adult social with food, beverages, cards and karaoke in the Legion Hall from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.
