ABERDEEN (AP) — Presentation College in Aberdeen hopes to move into the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for the 2013 sports seasons.
The school has been competing as an independent in NCAA Division III. Athletic Director Brian Spielbauer tells the media the school has applied to the NAIA and expects to be accepted.
Spielbauer says that if the college is accepted it will be able to offer scholarships to athletes, something it can't do now.
Presentation won't know until April if it is accepted but the school already has begun scheduling games with surrounding schools, such as Dakota State in South Dakota and Jamestown College, Valley City State and Mayville State in North Dakota.
Spielbauer says the school won't seek out a conference until it is formally accepted into the NAIA.
