The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball team was picked eighth in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches’ poll.
The Tigers received 44 points and finished ahead of Nebraska Wesleyan (29), Doane College (26) and Mount Marty College (12). Dordt College, which won the league’s regular season title last year, was selected first in the poll.
The eighth-place preseason selection comes after DWU failed to qualify for the GPAC postseason tournament for the first time since the 2004-05 season. The Tigers had a record of 15-15 overall and 7-13 in the GPAC last season.

The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball team was picked eighth in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
DWU received 38 points, finishing ahead for Doane College (27), Midland University (23) and Nebraska Wesleyan (15). Concordia, which won both the regular season and postseason titles last year, received seven first-place votes in the poll.
The Tigers went 16-15 last season, which was their first winning season in four years.
Fitts earns GPAC golfer of the week

Dakota Wesleyan University freshman Lauren Fitts was given her second Great Plains Athletic Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week honor.
Fitts earned the honor with the help of her performance at the GPAC Qualifier No. 2 Oct. 3 in Lincoln, Neb. She shot a 79 and won the individual title by one stroke over Briar Cliff’s Dawn Chapman.
Fitts leads the individual conference race after the fall season with a two-round total of162 and is ahead by six strokes.
