Things to remember

ANIME CLUB TO HOST COSPLAY PICNIC: The Mitchell S.O.S. Brigade Anime Club will host a Cosplay (costumed play) picnic from 12:30 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14, at Kiwanis Park, Mitchell. The participants will wear costumes to embody a character or idea, including characters from Japanese animated film (anime), comics (manga), and from American comics and film, video games or from subcultures such as steampunk, dieselpunk or cyberpunk.

The Anime Club meets twice monthly at Mitchell Public Library to discuss Japanese culture, subcultures and to view anime screenings. For more information, contact Lori Holmberg at 933-0211.

KIMBALL CHURCH HOSTS PANCAKE FEED: A pancake breakfast sponsored by Father O’Gorman Council Knights of Columbus will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14, at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, Kimball.

Cost is $4 per adult, $2 for children or $12 for a family. Proceeds will go to a Right to Life project.

TIME AT THE TABLE SETS COOKING CLASSES: Kitchen Kids Cooking Classes will be from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. for children grades three through eight on Wednesdays, Oct. 17 and 24 and Nov. 7 and 14; and Thursdays, Oct. 18 and 25, and Nov. 8 and 15, at James Valley Community Center, Mitchell. Cost for these sessions is $45 per person.

Family Class, for grades two and under with a parent in attendance, will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, Oct. 17 and 24, and Nov. 7 and 14. Cost for this session is $75.

The classes are sponsored by Time at the Table and the registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 12. For more information or to register, call 770-8534.

On this date in 2010, during the closing days before the election, State Rep. Kristi Noem declined to attend either of two tea party events scheduled in Rapid City.

According to Josh Shields, Noem’s campaign manager, the candidate had other commitments for both days.
