HOWARD — The Mitchell Christian girls’ cross country team, led by Becca Glanzer’s second-place finish, qualified for state Wednesday at the Region 2B meet.

The Eagles took second place with 15 points, behind only first-place Canistota’s 13 points. Glanzer, a junior, came in second overall with a time of 16 minutes, 21 seconds. Arlington’s Janae Sampson took first in the individual standings with a 15:59. The top 20 finishers in both the boys’ and girls’ standings qualified for the state tournament, but all of the MCHS girls will make the trip for being a top-three team.

Mitchell Christian’s Khiree Held took fourth with a 16:25; Devin Blindauer took 12th with a 16:54; Ashley Glanzer was 18th with a 17:14; Katie Reynen was 19th with a 17:18; and Leah Berg was 36th with a 20:31.

The Mitchell Christian boys missed the state tournament by one point, taking fourth place with 32 points. McCrossan was first with 14 points. Dell Rapids St. Mary was second and Arlington was third.

Individually qualifying for state for the Eagles, Kyle Glanzer took 11th with an 18:55 and Isaak Pietz was 12th with an 18:56. For a full list of the state cross country meet qualifiers, see the results at left on this page.

Tigers tie for 4th place in GPAC Qualifier No. 2

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The Dakota Wesleyan men’s golf team tied with Midland University for fourth place at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Qualifier No. 2 golf meet Wednesday in Sioux City, Iowa.

Northwestern College won the meet with a 292 and was followed by Morningside with a 296 and Nebraska Wesleyan with a 300.

Northwestern’s Kyle Stanek and Michael Dykema, Morningside’s Nathan Zimmerman and Nebraska Wesleyan’s Rory Doll tied for the individual title with a 72.

DWU’s Austin Hieb led the Tigers with a 75 and tied for eighth place. Mac Young carded a 76 for a 14th place tie and Travis Johnson shot a 79 and tied for 24th

Tyler Burr tied for 36th with an 82 and Josh Korn had an 84 and finished in a tie for 45th.

The Tigers host the TigBro Cup vs. Hastings College Saturday at Wild Oak Golf Course in Mitchell.

DWU women end in tie, men lose in overtime to Dordt

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — The Dakota Wesleyan women’s soccer team tied 1-1 against Dordt College Wednesday in Sioux Center Iowa.

With the tie, the Tigers’ record is 2-6-1 on the season.

Both goals were scored in the second half and DWU’s Yutzil Rodriguez scored the lone goal for the Tigers.

DWU goalie Kari Durham had three saves in the game.

The DWU men’s soccer team lost 3-2 in overtime to Dordt.

DWU dropped to 2-10-1 on the season.

Nick Sterling and Adam Jahnel each scored a goal for the Tigers. Goalie Alex Nelson made seven saves in the game.

Dordt’s Eric Grootenboer scored the goal in overtime to give Dordt the victory.

The men host South Dakota School of Mines and Technology at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mitchell Pepsi Cola Soccer Complex.
