YANKTON (AP) — The school superintendent in Yankton has publically apologized for a weekend drunken driving arrest.

Joseph Gertsema was arrested shortly before 1:30 a.m. Sunday at a Highway Patrol checkpoint near Vermillion. Authorities say he failed a sobriety test.
Gertsema tells the media that he's angry with himself, and that he apologizes to his family and the community for his "bad decision" to drive after drinking.
Gertsema has been Yankton's school superintendent for 23 years.
