From the 2011 South Dakota high school graduates who enrolled, the percentage of students who needed remedial coursework in math, English or both at each of the six public universities were:

Black Hills State University, 45 percent;

Northern State University, 41 percent;

Dakota State University, 38 percent;

South Dakota State University 26 percent;

University of South Dakota 23 percent;

School of Mines and Technology 7 percent.
