SIOUX FALLS — The Mitchell High School Marching Band was awarded its highest score ever and finished 10th overall in the field competition Saturday at the Festival of Bands in Sioux Falls.
The marching band scored 80.4 out of 100 in the finals competition, the highest total the band has ever received, according to Director Ryan Stahle.
“That was pretty cool,” Stahle said Sunday in an interview with The Daily Republic. The Sioux Falls competition drew about 40 area bands, and Stahle said he was very pleased his group was able to finish in the top 10. The group finished fourth in the preliminary competition, which earned them the right to compete in the finals along with 10 other bands. The marching band did not compete in the parade portion of the Festival of Bands.
