Avon teacher finalist for SD Teacher of the Year Award

OACOMA — The 13th annual Systems Change Conference will be Wednesday through Friday, Oct. 10-12, at Cedar Shore Resort, Oacoma.

The event will include in-depth sessions for educators at all levels on a variety of key education issues, including the Common Core and Teacher Standards. The 2013 South Dakota Teacher of the Year will be announced Thursday night during a recognition banquet. The 2012 National Teacher of the Year Rebecca Mieliwocki, of California, will give the keynote address that evening.

Finalists for the South Dakota Teacher of the Year award are Katie Anderson, Rapid City School District; Connie Gretschmann, Avon School District; Shelly Loehrer, Milbank School District; Carolyn Spielmann, West Central School District; Kenneth “Lance” VanderVorst, Herreid School District.
