RAPID CITY (AP) — The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is celebrating the 100th birthday of the school's M Hill.
Civil engineering students at the school are hosting a campus party Friday to celebrate the milestone birthday. The free barbecue kicks off at noon at the March/Dake Plaza, just south of Peterson Hall.
The Mines student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers will offer demonstrations of how the original "M' was laid out on the hill 100 years ago.
A surveying telescope will be available for students, faculty and staff to eye the iconic letters from afar.
