SIOUX FALLS — In its final regular season games, the Mitchell high school softball team split a doubleheader with Sioux Falls Roosevelt. The Kernels dropped game one 6-5, but came back with a 10-8 win in the nightcap Tuesday in Sioux Falls.

Hallie Misiaszek suffered the loss on the mound in game one, allowing three earned runs on five hits while striking out seven. She went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Emily Sudbeck was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

In game two, Andrea Konz picked up the win in relief. She allowed five runs on seven hits in three innings while striking out two in her first varsity action.

Courtney Moore led the Kernels in the win with four hits and an RBI. Jenna Skinner was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Misiaszek went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Ashley Larson drove in two.

The Kernels finished the regular season 15-11 and take on Watertown in the first round of the state tournament at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Sherman Park in Sioux Falls.

DWU falls in three sets

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Dakota Wesleyan University’s volleyball team dropped to 0-5 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference with a 3-0 loss to Briar Cliff University Tuesday in Sioux City, Iowa. Set scores were 25-21, 25-18, 25-18.

Briana Jung had 24 assists for the Tigers, while Danielle Bird had seven kills, six digs and two blocks in the loss.

DWU (4-17 overall) returns to action Friday against Jamestown College in Mitchell.

Ali Said named GPAC offensive player of week

Dakota Wesleyan University sophomore forward Thara Ali Said was named the Great Plains Athletic Conference women’s offensive soccer player of the week Tuesday.

Ali Said scored one goal in each of the Tigers’ wins last week, coming against Mount Marty and Concordia.

The wins were the first of DWU’s season. Ali Said is second on the team with four goals this season. She has 14 shots and one game-winning goal.

DWU (2-4, 2-1 GPAC) hosts Briar Cliff University at 5:30 p.m. today at the Pepsi Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell for the team’s annual Pack the Pitch game.
