LETTER: Here’s to people who pay attention and care

I want to say a special word of appreciation to the individual who cared enough to see suspicious activity and report it to the police.

To the Editor:

I want to say a special word of appreciation to the individual who cared enough to see suspicious activity and report it to the police.

After spending time working in my classroom at Mitchell Christian School on Sunday, I exited the building from the north door and found my way to my scooter which was parked directly in front of my classroom window. I wanted to double-check and see if my computer had shut down properly, and was too lazy to walk all the way back into the building, so I just looked through my window to see that everything was shut down.

Unbeknownst to me, my actions caught the eye of a motorist who made a call to the Mitchell Police Division and I believe followed me for several blocks until a police unit arrived.

As I was waiting to turn onto Havens I saw the lights flash and the siren sound, so I assumed that the squad car was on a call and pulled over to the side of the road. To my surprise, the officer pulled up behind me and got out of the car.

After asking for my identification, he asked me if I had been looking in windows at Mitchell Christian School. The officer called my name into headquarters as I explained that I was a teacher at the school and was looking into my own classroom window to see if the computer had shut down properly.

It is nice to know that there are people in the community who are watching out for suspicious activity and are willing to take the time and call the police.
