SDSU speaker to outline 'Death of Liberal Class'

Chris Hedges, a Pulitzer Prize winner and former New York Times foreign correspondent, will explain the demise of traditional liberal pillars.

BROOKINGS — Is the liberal class dead?

It is according to Chris Hedges, a Pulitzer Prize winner and former New York Times foreign correspondent, who will explain the demise of traditional liberal pillars when he speaks at South Dakota State University at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Performing Arts Center.

Hedges argues that the press, liberal religious institutions, labor, public education, culture and the Democratic Party have surrendered to corporate interests or been so decimated as to become ineffectual, shutting down the incremental reform that is vital to a democratic state.

“Death of the Liberal Class,” the eighth of his 10 books, was published in October 2010 by Nation Books.
