BROOKINGS — The Mitchell girls’ tennis team finished in eighth place at the Eastern South Dakota Conference tournament Thursday in Brookings.
BROOKINGS — The Mitchell girls’ tennis team finished in eighth place at the Eastern South Dakota Conference tournament Thursday in Brookings.
The Kernels scored a total of 19 points, while Watertown won the team title with 308 points.
Aberdeen Central had 299 points for second place and Pierre rounded out the top three with 235 points.
Mitchell’s No. 3 singles player Grace Grabenstein was the only player to win a singles match. Grabenstein lost in the first round of play but defeated Yankton’s Alexa Bryan 8-3 in a consolation match, allowing her to play for fifth place.
Grabenstein lost in the fifth-place match 10-7 to Sierra Goergen, of Huron.
No. 2 doubles team Grabenstein and Haley Smith made it to the fifth-place match but lost to Brookings. Allison Buckley and Sammy Pooley, No. 3 doubles team, won the consolation championship match against Yankton.
Mitchell plays in the state tournament Oct. 4-6 in Rapid City.
