MHS tennis beats Brandon Valley 5-4

The Mitchell High School girls’ tennis team defeated Eastern South Dakota Conference rival Brandon Valley 5-4 Tuesday at Hitchcock Park in Mitchell.

No. 3 singles player Grace Grabenstein and No. 4 singles player Haley Smith were undefeated against the Lynx.

Both players beat their opponents 10-8 and teamed up to win the No. 2 doubles match 10-4.

Mitchell’s No. 1 Courtney Wells and No. 6 Tatum Dean also won singles matches.

Mitchell also picked up a win Monday, taking down Vermillion 9-0.

The Kernels improved to 5-19 in the season and play in the ESD tournament Friday.
