Area volleyball roundup: MVP beats Dakota Christian in 5

NEW HOLLAND — Mount Vernon/Plankinton defeated Dakota Christian in five sets Monday in high school volleyball action. Set scores were 25-20, 17-25, 26-24, 17-25, 15-13.

Jordan Ackterberg and Megan Bultsma each had 10 kills to lead the Titans’ offense. Mikayla Weiss and Dani Stolz each added nine kills. Ackterberg and Stolz each recorded three blocks. Weiss had 32 set assists and Kallyn Prangley had 20 digs in the win. Alisha Northrup served five aces. The Titans are 7-5 this season and play at Wessington Springs Thursday.

Amber Baan Hofman was the kill leader for Dakota Christian with nine. Jessica Kaemingk added seven kills and Brooklyn VanderPol and Abbi Baan Hofman each added six. Germaine Big Crow led the defense with 21 digs. Kaemingk added 15 digs and Abbi Baan Hofman had 13. VanderPol served 12 aces in the loss. Kennedy Muckey had 10 set assists. The Cadets are 5-6 this season and host Platte-Geddes today.

Corsica/Stickney 3, Wessington Springs 1

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Corsica/Stickney came back after losing the first set to defeat Wessington Springs in four sets Monday. Set scores were 14-25, 28-26, 25-11, 25-12.

Brianna Kuyper served six aces and had 36 assists for Corsica/Stickney. Jackie Dethlefsen had 15 kills and three blocks. Micayla Bamberg had three blocks. Missy Johnson recorded 21 digs.

Corsica/Stickney is 4-10 and hosts Tripp-Delmont/Armour Thursday in Corsica.

Traci Orth had three service aces, four kills and six blocks for the Spartans. Haley Reider and Lexi Olinger each had 29 set assists. Cassidy Musick had five digs.

Wessington Springs is 4-10 and hosts Mount Vernon/Plankinton today.

Ethan 3, Menno 0

ETHAN — Ethan improved to 11-7 on the season with a win in three sets over Menno Monday. Set scores were 25-14, 25-10, 25-13.

Ethan’s kill leaders were Rachel Hawkins and Aliea Kretschmer-Webster with five kills each. Anna Mueller added four. Whitney Endres had five digs for the Rustlers. Tori Pollreisz had five and Katie Bicek had four. Pollreisz had five aces and Holley Lindeman had four. Anna Mueller and Lindeman each had two blocks. Lindeman had 18 set assists.

Menno was led by Brittany Haberman with three kills. Kylee Kessler had two kills. Christina Herrboldt had six digs and Courtney Schaeffer had five digs. Shelby Huber had one ace. Haberman had one block. Courtney Schaeffer had four set assists.

Ethan (11-7) plays at Freeman Thursday. Menno (1-11) hosts Bon Homme Thursday.
