Being named the ninth member of Mitchell’s Ducks Unlimited hall of fame came as a complete surprise to Steve Peschong.

Peschong, a Mitchell resident, was honored as the newest hall of fame member at the Ducks Unlimited banquet Thursday at the Highland Conference Center in Mitchell.

“I didn’t expect it at all,” Peschong said. “To even be considered for it is a great honor.

“I looked at the plaque and saw the names (of the other hall of fame inductees) and thought somebody would have a good night, but never thought about myself.”

Peschong said he’s been with the group for about 35 to 40 years and takes pride in being a part of it.

“I like the fact that a large percentage of the money raised goes back to the resources,” he said. “It’s a good way to give back.”

Mitchell’s Ducks Unlimited has around 250 members and Peschong said it’s been nice to see a growth in the organization over the years.

“The thing that’s really getting to be a good feeling here is to see all the younger people getting involved,” he said. “The organization is looking for new people and new ideas all the time.”

Peschong joins Jack Theeler (2004), Ron Jenkins (2005), Craig Jones (2006), Curt Hart (2007), Chuck Muth (2008), Dick Muth (2008), Paul Muth (2008) and Dale Thomas (2011) on the hall of fame list. His name will be added to a plaque and Hart awarded Peschong a collector decoy for the recognition.
