Area high school volleyball roundup: Bridgewater-Emery takes down Howard

EMERY — Mackenzie Schultz tallied 25 assists, 12 digs and five aces to help lead Bridgewater-Emery to a straight-sets victory over Howard in high school volleyball action Monday in Emery.
Set scores were 25-18, 25-13, 25-22 as Justine Dye had 11 kills and nine digs for Bridgewater-Emery, which was also helped out by six kills from Mallory Haiar, Kelsey Kotas and Tiana Kayser. Kotas also recorded six aces and Kayser finished with four aces.
Howard’s stat leaders were Jenna Clark with 10 digs and eight kills, Kelsey Dawson with five aces and eight kills and Sydney Thompson with 13 assists.
Bridgewater-Emery improved to 7-3 on the season and takes on Hanson today in Alexandria, while Howard dropped to 4-6 and takes on Oldham-Ramona/Rutland today in Ramona.
Ethan 3, Mitchell Christian 0
Ethan defeated Mitchell Christian 25-15, 25-9, 25-16 in a high school volleyball match Monday in Mitchell.
Morgan Tuttle had 11 kills for Ethan, while Holley Lindeman had a match-high 25 assists. The Rustlers improved to 10-6 on the season and take on Scotland Thurday in Scotland.
Mitchell Christian was led by Emily Schrag and Emily Reynen with nine digs each. Brittany Zoss and Ellie Bleeker each had eight digs. Reynen finished with a team-high three kills.
Mitchell Christian (2-5) takes on White Lake today in Mitchell.
Scotland 3, Freeman 1
FREEMAN — Kennidy Ashe had 13 kills and 20 digs as Scotland went on to a 3-1 win over Freeman in high school volleyball action Monday in Freeman.
Set scores were 25-18, 25-20, 27-29, 25-23.
Amber Alvey had 33 assists and 13 digs for Scotland.
For Freeman, Dina Soulek had 16 kills, 33 assists and 11 digs. Shelby Bauer had 11 kills, nine digs and three aces.
Scotland improved to 4-4 and takes on Marion today in Marion. Freeman (2-5) takes on Menno Thursday in Freeman.
Dell Rapids St. Mary 3, Canistota 1
CANISTOTA — Canistota’s volleyball team fell to 2-8 on the season after losing 3-1 to Dell Rapids St. Mary Monday in Canistota by set scores of 23-25, 25-13, 25-13, 25-18.
Kelsie Rotert had 21 digs for Canistota, while Natasha Letcher had 20 digs and Chloe Nielsen finished with 17 assists. Canistota’s JV team also lost as the team hopes to rebound today against Gayville/Volin in Canistota.
James Valley Christian 3,
Mount Vernon/Plankinton 0
MOUNT VERNON — James Valley Christian defeated Mount Vernon/Plankinton 25-22, 25-22, 26-24 in high school volleyball action Monday in Mount Vernon.
Mikayla Weiss had 14 assists and 10 digs for Mount Vernon/Plankinton, while Dani Stolz led the team with eight kills.
MVP returns to action Monday to face Dakota Christian in New Holland.
Parker 3, Irene-Wakonda 0
PARKER — Parker handled Irene-Wakonda 25-5, 25-16, 25-7 in high school volleyball action Monday in Parker to improve to 18-0 on the season.
Amber Dysthe recorded 19 assists and 12 digs in the win, while Tessa Weeldreyer had a match-high nine kills.
Parker’s next game is against Chester today in Chester.
