Mitchell tennis cruises against Spearfish, falls to Yankton

The Mitchell High School girls’ tennis team split a pair of matches Saturday at Hitchcock Park in Mitchell.

The Kernels started the day off with an 8-1 win over Spearfish before falling 8-1 to Yankton.

Tatum Dean was the lone Mitchell player to pick up a win against Yankton, taking down Anna Kokesh 11-9 at the No. 6 singles spot. Dean did not play in a varsity match against Spearfish.

Halle Larson lost a tough match in the No. 5 singles spot against Yankton, falling 11-9 to Kim Cap. Larson picked up a 10-0 win over Karla Meza of Spearfish to open the day.

With the matches, Mitchell moved to 2-13 on the season and 0-9 in the Eastern South Dakota Conference. The Kernels take on Huron and Aberdeen Central today in Aberdeen.
