GLAD YOU ASKED: Golf cart drivers must have license
Q. We live in a small community and would like to know if it is legal for someone to drive around on a golf cart with binoculars and stop and check out yards. Trust me, they’re not looking for their dog.

A. Under state law, any municipality can adopt traffic regulations allowing the use of golf carts on public roads. The law makes municipalities require anyone who operates a golf cart to have a valid driver’s license, insurance and the proper permit. According to Davison County Chief Deputy Steve Brink, Ethan and Mount Vernon have not adopted the ordinance, making the use of golf carts on roadways in those towns illegal. Using binoculars to peer inside homes is considered illegal, Brink said, but innocently using binoculars to look around is not.
