1 dead in shooting between Royals and Chiefs stadiums

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A man shot and wounded a female parking lot employee Friday between the stadiums that are home to the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals before killing himself, police said.

Officers were called to a parking area between Arrowhead Stadium and Kauffman Stadium at 3:23 p.m. Friday, said Kansas City, Mo., police Sgt. Stacey Graves.

Graves said the woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Officers found the man in a car, dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot. The pair were both in their 40s and knew each other, but police did not elaborate on their relationship. Their names were not immediately released.

Witnesses said the man drove into the area in a silver Cadillac, several shots were fired and the man then turned the gun on himself in the car.

MC/MV falls to JVC

By The Daily Republic

The Mitchell Christian/Mount Vernon soccer team was shut out 7-0 by James Valley Christian Friday in Huron.

JVC scored three goals in the first half before adding four goals in the second.

“James Valley’s a very good team and they’re well balanced,” MC/MV’s head coach Bob Lemon said. “They’ve been playing together for a long time and are one of the top teams in the state.”

Mitchell Christian had four shots on goal in the game to JVC’s 28.

MC/MV’s goalie Aaron Lemon had 21 saves.

“I thought that we did better in the second half in being more aggressive,” Lemon said. “Hopefully we learn a lesson when playing teams like JVC and go forward from here.”

MC/MV dropped to 2-6-1 and plays the rescheduled second half game against Mitchell High School at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Pepsi Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.
