Mitchell's Weich takes fifth at home invitational

Mitchell's Jaron Weich led the Kernels individually with a fifth-place finish at the Mitchell Invitational Friday at Lakeview Golf Course.

Weigh tallied a score of 74 in the round to tie Brandon Valley's Greg Koehn for fifth. Sioux Falls O'Gorman's Max Donohue won the event with a 70.

Mitchell finished with a total of 338 strokes to take 13th place on the day.

All 17 AA schools attended the invite and Sioux Falls O’Gorman won the team title with a 293.

After the Knights, Brandon Valley was second with a 301, Sioux Falls Lincoln finished third with a 307, Yankton placed fourth with 311 and Aberdeen Central rounded out the top five with a 318.

The 17 AA schools meet again later in the season as Mitchell hosts the Class AA state tournament at Lakeview Golf Course Oct. 1-2.

Jacob Rice carded an 80 on the day to take 28th place, Aaron Sudbeck, Landon Pooley and Tyson Allen all scored a 92 to tie for 86th place and Ryan Solberg had a 94 to finish in 91st place.

The Kernels start post season play in the Eastern South Dakota Conference tournament Sept. 22 at Yankton Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton.
