LETTER: Write-in vote would be wasted

This is a reply to the letter submitted on September 8, by John Shaw. I would tend to agree that the system is broken and a choice between two candidates of only two political parties is not much of a choice. Until the current system is changed, however, this is the only option we have. To write in a third party candidate or to just choose not to vote is a wasted vote.

To the Editor:

This is a reply to the letter submitted on September 8, by John Shaw. I would tend to agree that the system is broken and a choice between two candidates of only two political parties is not much of a choice. Until the current system is changed, however, this is the only option we have. To write in a third party candidate or to just choose not to vote is a wasted vote.

Right now we have two very different choices in what direction this country should go. One choice is a President that will continue to work for the middle class by stopping draconian cuts to Medicare and Social Security, by demanding that the rich pay their fair share in taxes, by passing healthcare reform that affects the majority of Americans and doesn’t just benefit the healthcare providers and also by continuing to bring the troops home from two failed wars. The other choice is one that will give the rich more tax breaks that aren’t paid for, one that will end Medicare as we know it and leave our seniors with a coupon for their insurance, repeal the Affordable Care Act which has allowed millions to be insured that previously could not due to pre-existing conditions, and one that will take us into a war with Iran.

One other thing, while I am sure that the Daily Republic holds its staff writers to the highest standard of ethics all reputable media sources do in regards to plagiarism, apparently Mr. Shaw does not hold the same standards. His entire letter, word for word, was plagiarized from a piece written on the internet by a person named Brandon Smith titled “The Lesser of Two Evils Con Game” published on June 12, found on a website called Alt-Market.com.
