SC/W claims CBH tourney championship

PLANKINTON — Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s volleyball team was undefeated and named champion of the Custer Battlefield Highway Conference tournament Saturday.

PLANKINTON — Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s volleyball team was undefeated and named champion of the Custer Battlefield Highway Conference tournament Saturday.

SC/W, which was 3-0 on the day, defeated White Lake in the championship game. Set scores were 25-19, 25-19.

Candace Page-Marten had 16 assists and five digs, Rachelle Moore had 15 digs and Marissa Weber had 13 kills. Shelby Selland had four blocks, two digs and two assists and Rachel Selland had four kills, three blocks and three digs. Logan Moody added seven digs.

SCW defeated Corsica/Stickney in a first-round game. Sets scores were 25-12, 25-16. Page-Marten had two aces and nine assists, Moore had one ace and eight digs and Weber had seven kills.

SC/W beat Kimball in straight sets 25-14, 25-11 in a second-round game.

Page-Marten had 10 digs, one ace and eight assists, Moore had five digs and Savannah Swenson had three aces and four digs. Weber added 10 kills.

For Kimball, Lindsay Olson recorded four kills. Mary Kroupa had four digs and five assists, while Emily Sinclair had three kills.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton took third, Corsica/Stickney was fourth, Ethan finished fifth, Kimball was sixth and Mitchell Christian finished seventh.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton was 3-1 in the tournament with its only loss coming against White Lake.

The Titans beat Mitchell Christian 25-21, 19-25, 25-20, knocked off Ethan with set scores of 25-12, 25-19, lost to White Lake 25-21, 25-19 and

defeated Corsica/Stickney 25-19, 25-21.

Stats from the entire tournament for MVP included Kallyn Prangley, who had four aces and 43 digs. Jordan Achterberg recorded 11 kills and three blocks, Danni Stolz added 11 kills and Mikayla Weiss had 55 assists and 13 kills.

Corsica/Stickney 2, Kimball 0

PLANKINTON — In a best of three sets, Corsica/Stickney swept Kimball 25-17, 25-21 in high school volleyball action during the Custer Battlefield Highway tournament.

Kimball’s Emily Sinclair recorded seven digs and five aces, Mary Kroupa had four digs and five assists and Brooklyn Donald added two kills.

Ethan 2, Kimball 0

PLANKINTON — Kimball dropped to 1-5 when it lost to Ethan 25-16, 25-18 in high school volleyball action Saturday during the CBH tournament.

Sinclair had three aces and two digs, Anna Pazour recorded six digs and Haley Pazour added three kills and three digs.

Next, Kimball plays Mount Vernon/Plankinton Tuesday.

McCook Central/Montrose 3, Howard 0

PARKER — Laura Klaudt led McCook Central/Montrose with 18 assists and 12 digs to give the volleyball team a 5th place finish over Howard in the Big East Conference tournament Saturday.

Set scores were 25-19, 25-20, 25-21.

MCM’s Jean Skoglund recorded eight kills and four aces, Anna Olinger had seven kills and four aces and CJ Ristesund added seven kills and three aces.

Howard’s Jenna Clark had six kills, ten digs and one block, Sydney Thompson recorded 12 assists and Shelby Thompson added five aces.

MCM (3-7) hosts Sioux Falls Christian Tuesday Montrose, while Howard (4-3) hosts Menno at 6:15 today in Howard.
