Fort Thompson man sentenced for sexual abuse

FORT THOMPSON — A Fort Thompson man was sentenced Tuesday after being convicted of sexual abuse of a minor.

FORT THOMPSON — A Fort Thompson man was sentenced Tuesday after being convicted of sexual abuse of a minor.

Kyle Merritt, 25, was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison and five years of supervised release. He will also be required to register as a sex offender and was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment.

The sentence stems from an incident in June 2008 when Merritt knowingly caused a minor to engage in a sexual act. He pleaded guilty to the charge on March 23.

Merritt is being allowed to self-report to the U.S. Marshals Service by 3 p.m. Sept. 18.
