Kraft wins De Smet Invite, Roth takes 2nd in girls’ race

DE SMET — Wessington Springs’ Jase Kraft won the boys’ 5,000-meter run at the De Smet Invitational cross country meet Thursday in De Smet.
Kraft finished the race in 17 minutes, 11.2 seconds. Second-place finisher Trevor Ward, of Estelline, crossed the finish line well after Kraft, finishing in 17:47.3. Woonsocket’s Rex Schlicht finished in third place.
In the girls’ 4,000-meter run, Mikayla Prouty, of Clark/Willow Lake, was the top finisher. Freeman’s Cailey Roth came in second with a time of 16:25.1. Mount Vernon/Plankinton’s Savannah Schmidt finished the race in fourth place.
Tennis tourneys begin at 8 a.m. Saturday in Mitchell

The Take the Cake and Mitchell Tennis Classic adult tournaments are set to start at 8 a.m. Saturday at Hitchcock Park in Mitchell.
Take the Cake matches will be played first and finish around 1 p.m., and cake will be given out at the finish of the session.
The Mitchell Tennis Classic adult matches will begin after and continue until all matches have been completed.
