US attorneys to meet with tribal officials

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Fifteen U.S. attorneys who make up the Department of Justice's Native American Issues Subcommittee are slated to meet in Bismarck on Thursday to discuss public safety issues in Indian Country.

North Dakota U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon says the U.S. attorneys will meet with tribal officials to work on improving public safety in tribal communities. Purdon is vice-chairman of the committee.

The group met last year on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota to hear from tribal leaders, law enforcement officials and community members about public safety issues in Indian Country, including violence against Native American women.
