Today's sports briefs: Caldwell shoots par to win Parkston Invite

Chamberlain’s Coleman Caldwell shot a 72 to claim the individual title at the Parkston Invitational boys’ golf meet Tuesday at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell.

Parkston got two top-five finishes at its own meet, as Jake Weber shot a 75 for second and Garret Hohn finished in fourth place with a 77.

Parkston finished second in the team standings with a 328. Dell Rapids took first with a 316, while Mitchell Christian finished sixth with a team score of 368.

Mitchell Christian was led by Adam Bleeker, who finished 12th with a round of 83. Jackson Feiner took 20th with a round of 89. Wes VanderPol shot a 92 and Adam Rasmussen carded a 104.

Clint Fetzer knocks in first hole-in-one

Clint Fetzer, of Mitchell, knocked in a hole-in-one Monday at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell.

Fetzer recorded his first ever ace on Lakeview’s 156-yard 12th hole with a 3-hybrid.

Mitchell men’s flag football meeting is today

An organizational meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. today at the Recreation Center in Mitchell for anyone interested in having a team in the men’s flag football league this year.

Former Mitchell resident places in powerlifting championships

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — Former Mitchell resident Jeff Blindauer took home 3rd place in the 40-44 age division in the USA Powerlifting Bench Press National Championships Aug. 25-26 in Palm Springs, Calif.

Blindauer competed in the 83 kg weight class. He also placed 4th in the open class with a lift of 424.25 lbs.

South Dakota men win reserve world champion ranch sorting title

AMARILLO, Texas — Michael Varilek, of Geddes, and Thomas Jones, of Viborg, won the reserve world championship title in ranch sorting at the 2012 Adequan Select American Quarter Horse Association World Championship Show Saturday in Amarillo, Texas.

Varilek showed his 2000 soreel gelding Okies Bootleg Pass, while Jones showed his 2006 bay mare Snappy Style Tracker.

The two competed in a class with 144 entrants from 40 different states as well as competitors from Argentina, Canada and Sweden.
