GREGORY — Cheyenne Salonen had 10 kills, one block and two service aces to help Gregory’s volleyball team take down South Central 2-0 in the championship game at the Gregory Invitational.
Desiree Stephen recorded 15 digs and Sierra Thomas had 14 assists for the Gorillas in the title game. The set scores were 25-15, 25-16.
Each team made the championship game by finishing 3-0 in pool play during the tournament. Gregory defeated Lyman (25-18), Colome (26-24, 15-25, 25-13) and Jones County (25-11, 25-11) in pool play.
South Central defeated Bon Homme (19-25, 25-23, 27-25) and Cody/Kilgore (25-23, 25-10). South Central also received a forfeit victory over Lower Brule.
Bon Homme defeated Lyman 2-0 in the third-place match of the tournament. Alie Adams had 17 assists in the win and Emily Pechous had 16 digs. Vanessa Navratil added 12 digs and seven kills for Bon Homme, which won by set scores of 25-21, 25-23.
In pool play, Bon Homme defeated Cody/Kilgore 25-10, 25-7, while Lyman beat Jones County (25-22, 25-15) and Colome (25-14, 25-16).
Other area volleyball action
Marion 3, Irene-Wakonda 1
WAKONDA — Katherin Luke’s 15 assists, 18 digs and four service aces helped Marion defeat Irene-Wakonda 3-1 in high school volleyball action Thursday in Wakonda.
Set scores were 25-16, 23-25, 25-13, 25-17.
Kylie Hughes had 17 kills for Marion in the victory, while Devin Nelson had a team-high 17 assists and Kaitlyn Engbrecht had 12 digs.
Marion (4-1) takes on Canistota today in Marion in a conference matchup.
Marion won the JV game 25-18, 25-15.
