SIOUX FALLS — The Mitchell High School girls’ soccer team defeated Sioux Falls Christian 1-0 Saturday in Sioux Falls after the boys’ team fell 7-1 to Sioux Falls Christian.
Kendra Brewster got the shutout in net for Mitchell in the girls’ game and Katie Sanderson scored the lone goal for the Kernels.
“Kendra did very well,” Mitchell soccer coach Ryan Perry said. “She had a very good game with a couple real nice saves.”
The game was scoreless heading into the second half, but Perry said he wasn’t concerned at that point.
“It felt like the game was in our favor,” he said. “I felt like we were where we needed to be.”
Perry said the boys’ team was in a good spot after the half in its game as well, but a rough second half led to the 7-1 defeat.
Sioux Falls Christian led the game 2-1 at the break.
“As frustrating as the second half was, it was nice to see them play that good first half,” Perry said.
Isaac Novak tallied the Kernels’ lone goal in the boys’ loss.
The girls’ team improved to 2-3 on the season and takes on St. Thomas More Friday in Rapid City, while the boys’ team dropped to 1-4 and takes on Mitchell Christian/Mount Vernon at 4 p.m. today at the Pepsi Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.
