Sophomore Jacob Rice led the Mitchell Kernel golf team with an 83 at a home quadrangular at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell.

Watertown’s Ethan Smith won the quad, shooting an 80 on the day.

The Kernels finished in fourth with a total of 352 strokes. Madison won the quad with a 337 followed by Watertown at 338 and Brookings with a 349.

“This was one of our worst scores on our home course,” Mitchell coach Sean Moen said. “I expected better scores.

“We need to pick up the pace if we want to keep up with the other conference teams.”

Moen said the team needs to work on many aspects of the game to improve for Friday’s Yankton Invitational.

“We have lot of work to do on course management and the mental part of the game,” Moen said. “We need to get work done on the driving range during practice so when they are on their own on the course, they know how to make adjustments.”
