Fort Thompson man admits to shooting bald eagle

FORT THOMPSON — A Fort Thompson man pleaded guilty Tuesday to shooting a bald eagle.

FORT THOMPSON — A Fort Thompson man pleaded guilty Tuesday to shooting a bald eagle.

Richard Coleman Jr., 25, now stands convicted of an unlawful taking of a bald eagle and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for the firearm offense and one year in prison and a $100,000 fine for the wildlife offense.

The incident occurred between Dec. 1 and Jan. 10.

A presentence investigation was ordered and sentencing was set for November. Coleman was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
