Mitchell football game is Booster Club event tonight

Tonight’s Mitchell Kernel Football game is a booster club event.
Members can pick up their cards before the game. Memberships can also be purchased before the game.
Mitchell freshmen football game moved to Sept. 24

Because of the high temperatures Thursday afternoon, the Mitchell freshmen football team had a schedule change.
Mitchell’s road game Thursday against Yankton was moved to Sept. 24. The 4:15 p.m. game will be played at Yankton Middle School instead of Yankton Crane Youngworth Field.
Blake Beavan pitches Mariners past Twins 5-4
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Blake Beavan gave up two runs in seven innings and Trayvon Robinson drove in two runs to lift the Seattle Mariners to a 5-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday.
Beavan (9-8) scattered five hits, walked two and struck out one.
Kyle Seager also drove in two runs for the Mariners, who have won 11 of their last 15 games.
Brian Duensing (3-10) gave up three earned runs and four hits in 5 1-3 innings. He left after loading the bases in the sixth, and left fielder Josh Willingham’s blunder contributed to Seattle’s four-run inning.
Willingham’s two-run homer in the eighth off Stephen Pryor made things interesting, but Tom Wilhelmsen picked up his 21st save to help the Mariners take three of four in the series.
Parkston finishes 4th at Harrisburg Invite; MCHS takes 10th place

HARRISBURG — Jake Weber took fourth-place in the individual standings at the Harrisburg Invitational Tuesday in Harrisburg and helped Parkston finish fourth in the team standings of the boys’ golf tournament.
Weber shot a 76 as Parkston finished with a team score of 329. Harrisburg won the event with a 306. Harrisburg’s Luke Rezac was the individual champion with a 73.
Mitchell Christian had two golfers medal as Jackson Feiner shot 80 for 13th place and Adam Bleeker’s 81 was good for 15th.
Mitchell Christian finished 10th as a team with a score of 360.
MC/MV soccer team falls 3-0 to Freeman Academy

FREEMAN — The Mitchell Christian/Mount Vernon boys’ soccer team lost 3-0 to Freeman Academy Thursday in Freeman.
Freeman Academy had 15 shots in the match compared to Mitchell Christian/Mount Vernon’s three.
Aaron Lemon had six saves in the first half for Mitchell Christian/Mount Vernon as the team trailed 2-0. Noah Bowman finished the game in net, saving six shots and allowing one goal.
Mitchell Christian/Mount Vernon dropped to 1-4 on the season and takes on Mitchell High School at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Mitchell.
MHS soccer teams fall to Groton Area

GROTON — Mitchell High School’s boys’ and girls’ soccer teams fell to Groton Area Thursday in Groton.
The girls’ team dropped a 2-1 game. Kassondra Ptak was in goal for the first half and blocked several shots but the Kernels trailed 2-0 at the break. Kendra Brewster shutout Groton Area in the second half and Kayla Stangeland found the back of the net but the girls were unable to comeback.
The boys’ team lost 5-0 with Cole Carlson in net. The Kernels were unable to score despite 11 shots in the game.
The losses dropped both squads to 1-3 on the season as both take on Sioux Falls Christian Saturday in Sioux Falls.
Caldwell leads Chamberlain to first-place finish

Coleman Caldwell shot a 71 to lead the Chamberlain boys’ golf team to first place at the Chamberlain Invitational Thursday.
Chamberlain won with a total of 333 followed by Winner with 357, Todd County with 368, Pierre A with 377 and Pierre B with 420.
Chamberlain’s Lane Shroyer finished second shooting a 75 on the day, while Adam Hutmacher shot an 89 for a ninth place finish.
