Volleyball roundup: White Lake cruises by TDA

ARMOUR — Kim Munsen had 18 assists to help White Lake to a win in straight sets over Tripp-Delmont/Armour Thursday in Armour 25-14, 25-18, 25-11.

Hannah Just had 18 digs for TDA and Kelli Batterman finished with 13 digs.

White Lake improved to 2-2 on the season and takes on Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Tuesday in White Lake. Tripp-Delmont/Armour (1-2) takes on Avon Tuesday in Avon.

TDA won the JV match 23-25, 25-23, 15-13.

Dakota Christian 3, Colome 0

COLOME — Dakota Christian defeated Colome in straight sets 25-10, 25-17, 25-16 in high school volleyball action Thursday in Colome.

Germaine Big Crow had 12 digs for Dakota Christian in the win while Jessica Kaemingk led the team with eight aces and added five digs. Brooklyn Vander Pol and Abbi BaanHofman each had nine digs while Amber BaanHofman had a game-high eight kills. Vander Pol had five blocks in the match.

Team leaders for Colome were Tracy Routh with five assists and six aces, Rachel Shippy with seven digs and Sarah Shippy with three kills.

Dakota Christian returns to the floor Tuesday to take on Viborg/Hurley at home while Colome is set to compete Saturday at the Gregory Invitational in Gregory.

Gregory 3, Stanley County 0

GREGORY — Gregory defeated Stanley County 25-10, 25-8, 25-9 in high school volleyball action Thursday in Gregory.

Cheyenna Salonen had seven kills, three blocks and three aces in the win. Sierra Thomas had 12 assists and Mackenzie Odenbach had six aces for the Gorillas.

Gregory (2-0) returns to action Saturday when it hosts the Gregory Invitational in Gregory.

Wagner 3, Chamberlain 0

WAGNER — Jessa Doom had 21 assists and 22 digs to help lead Wagner over Chamberlain 25-11, 25-21, 25-19 Thursday in Wagner.

Nicole Weber had 11 kills for Wagner and Emily Brunsing added three blocks.

For Chamberlain, Logan Pickner had 10 kills and Jesse Brownell had 17 digs.

Wagner improved to 6-0 on the season and takes on Gregory Thursday in Gregory. Chamberlain (1-2) travels to take on South Central on Tuesday.

Highmore-Harrold 3, Lower Brule 0

HIGHMORE — Highmore-Harrold took care of Lower Brule in straight sets in high school volleyball action Thursday in Highmore, winning 25-9, 25-10, 25-12.

Highmore-Harrold had 27 aces in the match including eight from Courtney Keller and seven each from McKenzee Zilverberg and Kacie McCauley. Zilverberg led the team with six assists and Keller had a team-high six kills.

Highmore-Harrold (1-1) takes on Sunshine Bible Academy Tuesday in Highmore while Lower Brule (0-1) returns to action at the Gregory Invitational Saturday in Gregory.

Andes Central 3, Avon 0

LAKE ANDES — Kellie Winckler had 10 digs, seven kills and eight service aces to lead Andes Central over Avon in straight sets in high school volleyball action Thursday in Lake Andes.

Sierra Svatos had 18 assists and Latasha Dion finished with 10 kills for Andes Central as they won by set scores of 25-23, 25-6, 25-15.

Alyson Roth had four kills to lead Avon while Chesney Nagel had a team-high seven assists and Emily Mudder led the team with six digs.

Andes Central improved to 2-0 with the win and travels to take on Parkston on Tuesday. Avon (0-3) looks to bounce back as it takes on Tripp-Delmont/Armour Tuesday in Avon.

Kimball 3,

Sunshine Bible Academy 0

MILLER — Kimball took down Sunshine Bible Academy in straight sets Thursday in Miller

Set scores were 25-19, 25-15, 25-14.

Mary Kroupa led Kimball with 11 aces, 12 assists and four digs. Lindsay Olson had a team-high seven kills and Anna Pazour had six aces and three digs.

Kimball won the JV game 2-0.

Canistota 3, Centerville 2

CANISTOTA — Canistota won a tightly-contested high school volleyball match over Centerville in five sets Thursday in Canistota.

Set scores were 25-21, 17-25, 25-13, 22-25, 15-13.

Chloe Nielsen had 12 assists, seven kills and six blocks for Canistota in the win. Jenny Hofer had a team-high eight kills and six blocks. Morgan Larson and Kelsie Rotert each had 13 digs.

Canistota (1-3) takes on Marion Tuesday in Marion. Centerville (1-2) faces Scotland and Gayville-Volin Tuesday in Scotland.

Canistota won the B- and C-matches 2-0.

Menno 3, Freeman Academy 0

FREEMAN — Menno picked up its first win of the season with a 25-20, 25-20, 25-20 win over Freeman Academy in high school volleyball action Thursday in Freeman.

Menno (1-2) was led by Brittany Haberman who had a game high in kills (five) and blocks (four). Courtney Schaeffer had five assists and Ashton Diede led the team with seven digs.

Freeman Academy’s Brooklyn Ries had a match-high eight assists while Hannah Yoder had eight kills.

Menno returns to action against Bridgewater/Emery Tuesday in Bridgewater while Freeman Academy takes on Dell Rapids St. Mary Tuesday in Dell Rapids.

Parkston 3, Hanson 2

ALEXANDRIA — Whitney Weber had 13 assists and 12 digs to help Parkston beat Hanson in five sets Thursday in Alexandria.

Set scores were 25-23, 27-25, 26-28, 20-25, 15-9.

Jessica Bialas led Parkston in digs with 17 while McKenzie Lee had 12 digs to go along with four kills and a game-high five aces.

For Hanson, Kelli Wenande had 22 digs, Abby Kayser had 23 digs and Lindsi Dey had 24 digs. Erika Nelson finished with 10 kills and seven blocks. Kendra Cheeseman had 16 assists while Keira Goergen had 12.

Parkston (2-4) takes on Andes Central Tuesday in Parkston for its next action while Hanson (3-2) travels to take on Howard Tuesday in Howard.

Hanson won the JV match.

Platte-Geddes 3,

Wessington Springs 0

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Maddy Tegethoff had five aces as Platte-Geddes defeated Wessington Springs in straight sets Thursday in Wessington Springs 25-8, 25-12, 25-13.

Kelli Sprik had 15 assists for Platte-Geddes. Shelby Ralsenberg finished with eight kills, Josie DeGroot had four blocks and Kelly Knudson recorded nine digs.

Wessington Springs was led by Morgan Tebay, who had three aces and three blocks. Haley Reider had nine assists, Traci Orth had four kills and three blocks and Shayanne Kopfmann finished with three blocks. Monica Jones had 11 digs.

Platte-Geddes (1-1) plays Sioux Falls Christian Saturday in Sioux Falls, while Wessington Springs (1-1) plays Mitchell Christian Tuesday in Mitchell.

Platte-Geddes won the JV match.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 3, Ethan 1

FORESTBURG — Sanborn Central/Woonsocket defeated Ethan 3-1 Thursday in high school volleyball action in Forestburg.

Set scores were 25-20, 24-26, 25-20, 25-23.

Marissa Weber had 13 kills for Sanborn Central/Woonsocket. Morgan Selland finished with eight kills and Candace Page-Marten had four aces and 18 assists. Morgan Larson and 16 digs and four acces, Rachel Selland had three blocks and Shelby Selland had five blocks and 16 digs. Rachelle Moore finished with a game-high 32 digs.

Ethan’s Darbi Gustafson had 20 kills and one block in the match. Anna Mueller had six kills and three blocks and Whitney Endres had eight digs. Tori Pollreisz had six digs and Holley Lindeman had 23 assists.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket improved to 2-0 and faces White Lake Tuesday in White Lake. Ethan (2-3) played Bridgewater-Emery Saturday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket won the JV match.

Howard 3, Freeman 2

HOWARD — Trailing 2-0, Howard battled back to defeat Freeman in five sets Thursday in Howard.

Set scores were 23-25, 24-26, 26-24, 27-25, 16-14.

Jenna Clark had 20 digs and 14 kills for Howard. Kelsey Dawson had a match-high 23 kills while also recording five blocks. Jackie Haas had 17 digs and Shelby and Sydney Thompson each finished with 16 assists.

Freeman’s Dina Soulek had 21 kills, while Grace Gering had 35 assists. Nicole Hinkley had a match-high seven blocks and six service aces.

Howard (2-1) takes on Hanson Tuesday in Howard, while Freeman faces Gayville-Volin Thursday in Freeman.

Freeman won the JV match 25-22, 25-11.

Mitchell Christian 3, Iroquois 0

IROQUOIS — The Mitchell Christian volleyball team won its first game of the year 3-0 against Iroquois Thursday.

Set scores were 25-18, 25-18, 25-19.

Mitchell Christian (1-1) hosts Wessington Springs Tuesday, while Iroquois (0-2) hosts Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Tuesday.

Marion 3, Irene-Wakonda 1

WAKONDA — The Marion volleyball team defeated Irene-Wakonda 3-1 Thursday.

Set scores were 25-16, 23-25, 25-13, 25-17.

No stats were reported despite attempts to reach coaches.

Marion (4-1) hosts Canistota Tuesday, while Irene-Wakonda plays Beresford Tuesday in Beresford.

Parker 3,

McCook Central/Montrose 0

PARKER —The Parker volleyball team swept McCook Central/Montrose 3-0 Thursday. Set scores were 25-10, 25-16, 25-17.

MCM’s Jean Skoglund led with six kills and 10 digs. Stefani Matthies recorded five kills.

Anna Olinger had five kills, two digs and one block. CJ Ristesund added three kills, seven digs and three blocks.

Brianna Painter had 12 digs, and Kayty Knudsen added six digs.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton 3, Corsica/Stickney 1

CORSICA — The Mount Vernon/Plankinton volleyball team rallied in its last two sets to beat Corsica/Stickney 28-26, 23-25, 25-18, 25-18.

MVP’s Jazmine Waite had seven kills, while Dani Stolz recorded six kills and 10 blocks.

Mikayla Weiss tallied 14 aces, and Kallyn Prangley had 10 for the Titans.

Corsica/Stickney’s Brianna Kuyper served 25 aces and had 21 digs. Hope Menning recorded 10 kills, while Jackie Dethlefsen had eight kills, six blocks and four aces.

Missy Johnson led in digs with 28 on the night.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton (1-1) plays Ethan Tuesday in Ethan, while Corsica/Stickney 0-2 plays Wolsey-Wessington Tuesday in Wolsey.

Winner 3, Ainsworth, Neb., 1

Valentine, Neb., 3, Ainsworth, Neb. 1 (Triangular)

AINSWORTH, NEB. — The Winner volleyball team split at the Ainsworth triangular in Valentine, Neb.

Winner defeated Ainsworth 20-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-13 and was defeated by Valentine, Neb., 3-1.

Set scores in the second match were 25-9, 19-25, 25-22, 25-16.

Winner (3-1) hosts Bennett county Tuesday in Winner.
